How to Talk on Stream When You Feel Awkward

Talking on stream is weird at first. That is normal. I'm an introvert so, ya know, .... same.

You are basically narrating your life to a room that might be empty.
And your brain is going, why am I doing this.
Then you get quiet, and now your stream feels dead, and now you feel worse.

So here is how you fix it.

  1. Narrate what you are doing
Say what you are about to do, what you are trying, what you think will happen.
Even simple stuff like, I need to rotate here, I think they are flanking, I’m going to try a different character.

  2. Talk like you are making a video
Pretend you are recording a YouTube video. That mindset helps.
Because in a video, you would never sit in silence for thirty seconds. You would explain.

  3. Use questions as fuel
Ask questions out loud even if nobody answers yet.
    What would you do here.
Should I go aggressive or play safe.
Do we think they have ult.

When chat does show up, they already have something to respond to.

  1. Have three backup topics
    This helps a lot.
Pick three things you can always talk about.
    The game you are playing.
    Something you learned today.
    Something you are excited about.

When you go quiet, pull one of those.

  1. Stop trying to be perfect
If you wait until you feel confident, you will never talk.
    Confidence comes after reps.
    Not before.

The secret is simple.
You talk anyway.
Even when it feels awkward.
Especially when it feels awkward.

Because that is how you get better.
